Concern is mounting for\u00a0Savannah Guthrie<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0and her family after her mother, Nancy Guthrie, disappeared from her Arizona home over the weekend under circumstances authorities now believe may involve a crime.<\/p>\n

Nancy Guthrie, 84, was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills area north of\u00a0Tucson<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0on Saturday. When she failed to attend church on Sunday, a friend contacted police, prompting an immediate search effort. Since then, a large search-and-rescue operation has been underway, involving ground crews and aerial teams.<\/p>\n

In an initial press conference on Sunday,\u00a0Chris Nanos<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, sheriff of Pima County, said authorities were treating the case with urgency due to Nancy\u2019s age and health. At that time, he noted that while nothing definitively pointed to criminal activity, investigators were deeply concerned about what they were learning from the home.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re pretty much just throwing everything at this that we can,\u201d Nanos said. \u201cGuthrie is 84 years old and is not of good physical health, and so naturally that\u2019s a great concern. This is very concerning to us.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

He also confirmed that a homicide team had been brought in to assist, emphasizing that this step reflected the seriousness of the situation rather than a confirmed conclusion.<\/p>\n

As the investigation progressed, authorities uncovered information that shifted their assessment. Speaking with\u00a0People<\/span><\/span><\/strong>\u00a0on Monday, Sheriff Nanos said he now believes a crime may have been committed.<\/p>\n

\u201cAt this point, investigators believe she was taken from the home against her will, possibly in the middle of the night,\u201d he said. \u201cTaken against her will includes possible kidnapping or abduction.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Nanos added that Nancy went to bed Saturday night and was gone by Sunday morning, and investigators are confident she did not leave the house on her own.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe know, at least we believe, and I believe we know, she did not walk out of that home on her own.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Authorities have noted that Nancy\u2019s physical mobility is limited, making it highly unlikely she wandered away. Despite her physical challenges, Nanos emphasized that she is mentally sharp, which only deepens concerns.<\/p>\n

\u201cShe is really just as sharp as a tack,\u201d he told\u00a0People<\/em>. \u201cHere you have this lady who\u2019s got all her wits about her. So yeah, somebody came into that home and, I believe, took her out of there without her permission.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Investigators are now reviewing home security footage from the surrounding area and have collected what was described as \u201cbiological DNA-type evidence\u201d from the home. Officials have not released details about the evidence or said whose it may belong to.<\/p>\n

During this time, Savannah Guthrie has been absent from\u00a0Today<\/span><\/span><\/strong>. In a statement shared with the program, she thanked the public for their support and asked anyone with information to contact the Pima County Sheriff\u2019s Department.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of our family, I want to thank everyone for the thoughts, prayers, and messages of support,\u201d she said. \u201cRight now, our focus remains on the safe return of our dear mom.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Guthrie later shared a more personal message on\u00a0Instagram<\/span><\/span><\/strong>, emphasizing faith and collective prayer as the search continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe believe in prayer, we believe in voices raised in unison, in love, in hope, we believe in goodness. We believe in humanity. Above all, we believe in Him,\u201d she wrote, asking followers to continue praying for her mother\u2019s safe return.<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

As the investigation remains active and details are still emerging, authorities say they are using every available resource to locate Nancy Guthrie and determine exactly what happened. The Guthrie family continues to ask for privacy and support as they wait for answers.<\/p>\n
